efforts in dance information distri

This project is a grassroots initiative designed to gather and share information on upcoming dance events in North Carolina, with a particular focus on the Triangle area—Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill—and the rural communities surrounding them. The goal is to highlight the richness of the local dance scene, which, while vibrant and thriving in individual pockets, can sometimes feel dispersed and difficult to fully grasp.

This platform aims to provide a throughline for these communities—a place where dancers, organizers, and creatives can submit upcoming series, workshops, ideas, events, resources, grant opportunities, production needs, audition notices, and more. It won’t serve to announce every class at every studio, but it will highlight significant events that seek to engage the broader dance community.

Artist neighbors from related disciplines such as theater, music, performance art, and experimental music are also welcome to share their work.

Funding and Support

There is currently no formal funding for this project. It’s a grassroots, homegrown effort, and any financial support is deeply appreciated. To help sustain the administrative work behind this service, there are a few ways to contribute:

  • Subscribe to the newsletter on a monthly or yearly basis, or consider becoming a founding supporter.

  • When submitting an event that gets featured, a donation of $5-$20 is encouraged to help keep the platform running. However, no submission will be excluded due to lack of funds—this is entirely optional.

Additionally, any resources or grants that could help support this initiative are welcome. The hope is to eventually secure a grant so the project can be fully funded and free to use for everyone.

Inspiration and Vision

This project is closely modeled on New York City’s, Words of Mouth, which has been a powerful resource for the dance community there. Checking out and supporting that platform is encouraged. That success helped seed the idea for something similar here in North Carolina. For those outside of NC who are interested in starting something similar, collaboration is possible to replicate this effort for other regions.

Thank You

Thank you for the time, energy, and patience as this project takes shape. Systems are still being developed, and the process is a work in progress, but this platform is intended to become a valuable resource for connecting communities, sharing information, and growing the dance world in North Carolina.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
